City Slickers A Project of the Multicultural Heritage Centre in Stony Plain, Alberta.

City Slickers is a one day event that will take place on September 19th to celebrate the harvest and to understand where their food comes from. Approximately 1200 children from urban schools are invited to attend, to visit a local farm, to learn about life in rural Alberta.

The impetus behind City Slickers is to promote awareness to “urbanites” that would not have an opportunity to see what farm life is like. For most of the children attending City Slickers, a farm is a new world.  Most have no contact with rural Alberta so this one experience can be revealing and is often their first trip outside city limits.
